Big Little Hero nominations

Some of the fondest memories we have of Will during his treatment are hearing his laughter ring out when he spent time with the wonderful staff at Bristol Children’s hospital.

The nurses would play endless football matches in the ward corridors, dart nerf bullets through the wee collection windows, and go out of their way to creatively decorate the hospital room at a moments notice during Christmas to make Will smile.. They weren’t just there for Will. They were their to hug me during the lowest moments of my life, and continued to visit us daily, even on days off when Will was in a coma. Without their support towards the end I simply wouldn’t be here today.

The play specialists were a very integral part of our journey. They would spend hours playing and chatting to Will about anything and everything. Creating wonderful treasure hunts with pictures of grommets, distracting him and us from the intense isolation of weeks in hospital .These wonderful people were there and part of our incredibly sad and difficult journey, and supported us every step of the way..

There are so many wonderful people that form the part of a Childs oncology journey. From aneathatists with kind reassuring words, and porters who share a gentle smile, to dinner ladies who fed me when I was 8 months pregnant and unable to leave Will’s bed. From radiologists who made Will’s giggle endlessly with chats about the underpants he wore each day , destrating us all from the hour he would be polted to a table and undergo radiotherapy.

I owe my life to these people, as im sure many parents who have been through this journey can relate too. These people became my friends on a very lonely journey, and I can never truly repay them for what they have done for me and our family.

We created Big Hero Little Hero nominations as a way for families to say thank you to these incredible people that love and care for our children when we need them most.
